Psychotic depression is called so because it is a combination of major depression and psychotic illness or mental disorder. It usually occurs when depression reaches its severe stage in which psychosis combines with it. Individuals may experience the deepness of depression when being in psycho episodes. Even though psychosis can be repeated, it is somewhat easy to treat when compared with depression; all it need is lifelong maintenance.
Diagnosing psychotic depressive condition is hard and difficult. The wide array of symptoms of psychotic depression is very common and some patients won’t open up honestly so diagnosing psychotic depression is not that easy. Though, there are some symptoms which are similar among psychotic depressive patients, such as abnormal displays of thoughts and feeling, mental stress with confusion, thoughts of suicide, muddled speech and thought, this is because the thought and speech either moves too slowly or too rapidly, manic disorder, hallucinations, loss of touch with reality and spat perceptions, delusions and constant fear for everything.
It is important to note that psychotic features may mask the fundamental type of depression as they are seen in many other psychiatric diseases, like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. So it is always good to discuss about your complete symptoms to your doctor then only he can diagnose your disorder easily and it will helpful to start the correct treatment.
